How much water do you have to drink to improve your skin?

Is water good for your skin or not? Because I have, and always have had, extremely dry skin, the answer to this is gold. While most everything you Google will say that it IS good for your skin, and even has some pretty persuasive reasoning, actual scientific research says that water DOESN’T help improve your skin.

That being said, I think it’s safe to say that water can only do a body good. It is linked to tons and tons of great things, such as flushing out toxins and even helping with fatigue. (I was really surprised to find out that fatigue can actually be a sign of dehydration..whaaaat??) That answers a lot for me, because while I sometimes don’t have a problem drinking lots of water, I have a history of too much soda and tea and it’s dang near impossible for me to drink the recommended amount of water every day (or one day a week, for that matter.) It is also vital in processing the nutrients from the food we eat and carry those nutrients to where they need to go in the body. And probably most important to me right now, it’s been known to help curve cravings and aide in weight loss.

So what helps with your skin’s hydration, if water isn’t the answer like all of the movie stars would have us believe? Joel Schlessinger, MD (dermatologist) says, ” Sipping on water throughout the day is great for your body, but this hydration doesn’t actually reach your skin unless you’re extremely dehydrated. Instead, skin is hydrated through one of two different ways: natural oil production or topically applied creams, lotions, and serums.” (Hong)

So when I started putting my faith and consistent use in a couple of products I found this past year to help with my hydration it wasn’t my imagination that they were actually helping my skin retain moisture…YAY!! I will share a bit about them here, just in case your skin is thirsting for hydration…see what I did there?

One thing I use for hydrating my face is a hydrating serum. It has this awesome science that uses the moisture in the air and can detect the moisture in your skin to give you the balance you need. So even if you have oily skin, this was developed to help control that oil and balance it out to give you more normal skin. I have found that this product works so well that I really don’t have to use it that often, but I am SUPER glad to have it in my arsenal. It can be used every day, if needed. But I imagine if I don’t need it with my crazy flaky-dry-in-the-winter skin you probably won’t have to use it very often, either.

The same doctors that developed the serum came out with an active hydration body replenish lotion for your body. My legs LOVE me for using this and I have become addicted because it literally is the only thing I have ever used that I only have to use once a day and my legs don’t itch or flake from being dry. It uses the same molecular science to grab that moisture and do its magic on your skin.

If you want more information about these hydrating serums and creams, I am happy to give it to you one-on-one. I am an affiliate for these products, but know for sure I choose to be an affiliate because all of the skincare from this company has truly worked wonders for me and for many others that I knew before I became an affiliate.
